Attitude vs. Action
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3:17-18
I’m amused when I see some flowery wise inner peace statement on Facebook that’s thought to be an original epiphany. When in fact, it’s almost always a truth found in the bible. Mankind continues to think that they have within themselves a saving goodness that can deliver this world from it’s wars and strife. We can desire peace with all our heart, but we don’t have the lasting goodness to hold the course of peace. We must be transformed in Jesus and let Him plant within us the peace of the Spirit. All our goodness is weak due to our sin ridden heart. We want to be good and we can be, but not with resolve. Galatians 5:17, “For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.” I know from personal trial and error trying doesn’t accomplish this. I had to surrender to the will, plan and leading of Jesus. We’re doomed to failure without His covering and influence. Galatians 5:16,19-21a, “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these.” There’s a difference between good and righteousness. In our selves there’s only good, but in Jesus there’s righteousness. The fruit of the flesh takes action for the desires of itself the fruit of the spirit is a right attitude toward others.
