The Bible doesn’t say following Jesus will be easy. In fact Jesus said it would be difficult and fraught with ridicule and one difficulty is the facing failure. For me it’s such an overwhelming torment. No matter how hard I try too often I fail. As I was lamenting before the Lord over another failure in a long list over past days, He spoke with such love and gentleness. He said that my definition of failure and His are very different. My concept of failing is to mess up whether by choice or by accident, but the Lord’s definition of failure is to end up in hell. My mistakes are simply falling down. I never thought of it that way. You get dizzy not just from trying to keep up with everyone’s definitions and expectations, but from your own. We tend to be much harder and critical on ourselves. But the great nemesis is Satan. He’s the accuser of all. He tempts us to give into our urges and then after we do he accuses us relentlessly. “You’re a failure you can’t ever do anything right. God’s going to be angry, throw you away and not want anything to do with you.” How do I know this, it’s what happens to me every time.
Stop the insanity and get off the merry-go-round and live confidently. Jesus didn’t come to point out or condemn our failures, but love us in spite of them and strengthen us to go forward. It doesn’t matter to Him what we’ve done He’ll never turn us out, turn His back or disown us.
“The Lord is the one who is going ahead of you. He will be with you. He won't abandon you or leave you. So don't be afraid or terrified.” Deuteronomy 31:8
