In my relationships I tend to be the pursuer. These relationships with family and friends define a large part of who I am, but important as they are the one that defines all of me is my relationship with Jesus Christ. Him I pursue with all my heart.
We all pursue something whether it’s love, money, fame, material possessions, solitude or anything else. Yet, we ourselves are being pursued and we’ll be claimed as prize or prey depending upon who catches us. Both Jesus and Satan pursue us. One seeks to love and protect, the other to destroy and have you accompany him to hell. One or the other will claim us by the choices we make. If you don’t choose Jesus then by default you’ve chosen Satan.
Each one pursues us differently. Jesus calls us in a loving gentle voice and waits for you to answer His call. Revelation 3:20, “Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together.” The knobs on your side of the door you’ll have to open it He won’t force it open.
Satan lies, manipulating thoughts and circumstances hoping you’ll chase after what will bring destruction and eternal death. 1 Peter 5:8, “Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack.” The King James Version says, “Seeking someone to devour.” He gets you to make excuses for why things are going wrong. It’s never your fault, but someone else’s. Eventually you’re devoured by the very lies you’ve been swallowing. Truth is harder to swallow, but Jesus knows truth will always set you free. We can’t move forward when bound by lies, truth breaks those chains and lets us walk in freedom.
Are you pursuing Jesus or Satan and who are you letting pursue you?
