“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Far too much energy is expelled in comparing ourselves to others, “I’m better because…my clothes are nicer”, “I don’t act like that”, “My stuff is better” and so on. We are driven to compare for many reasons, I suppose. Some may actually believe in their superiority while others need to feel they’re better. Some may feel the indiscretions of others are worse than theirs.
In truth, we’re all sinners equally. Jesus is the only one we should compare ourselves to, but doing that will reveal only our own wrong. The Lord won’t tell us that our wrong is less than an another’s wrong. He’ll have us focus only on ourselves. While walking this earth He never compared Himself to anyone else. He directed all comparisons to God the Father.
No one on this earth is better anyone else. Some may be richer, better looking or famous, but not better. We shouldn’t be finger pointing or tongue wagging; it’s like saying my outhouse smells better than yours. One outhouse may look better on the outside, but they both stink! There’s no right or wrong side of the tracks. Uptown is not better than downtown. There’s no bad or worse behavior. My sin’s no different than yours. To God sin is sin, but the lie of Satan is that some sins are worse than others, when in reality there’s no differing degree.
Compared to Jesus there’s so much more I need. I need Him every second, every minute, every hour, every day. Without Him I am nothing. Praise the Lord! I don’t have to measure up because I’ve been forgiven, redeemed and accepted by Him. Satan would hand us a yardstick by which others measure. It’s time to take the stick, break it and in the name of Jesus beat him with it.
