“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” John 14:27
“My peace I give unto you” - Such tranquility of soul, such uninterrupted happiness of mind, such everlasting friendship with God as I enjoy, may ye all enjoy! And such blessedness I bequeath unto you: it is My last, My best, My dying legacy.(Clarke’s Commentary)
Here’s Jesus speaking just days before His life and dignity would be taken. He was headed into a situation where peace would be required and yet very difficult to maintain. That peace He put into action He’s offering to us. What would life be if we could grasp God’s unshakable unremitting peace? The kind of peace that keeps us from jumping when we should stand or causes us to run rather than wait and keeps Satan at bay because we know that there’s nothing he can do to tear us apart. I used to think how great it would be to meet someone who had that kind of peace. Now I find myself pursuing the Lord for that in my own life. To live without worry or fear of what might happen knowing that God’s in control no matter what does happen. As much as I would like to live in a sterile environment hoping that nothing bad will affect the ones I love or myself, that’s just not reality. Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.” We aren’t only to be makers of peace with others, but also to be the maker of peace in our own lives. Peace is a choice. Do we epitomize a war-like attitude or exemplify peace-making.
Fly the flag of unshakable unmistakable peace and not of turmoil.
