If you are foolishly bragging or planning something evil, then stop it now! If you churn milk you get butter; if you pound on your nose, you get blood-- and if you stay angry, you get in trouble. Proverbs 30:32-33
My granddad used to churn butter; it takes a lot of work and stamina. Churning anger also takes work and stamina - zapping you physically and emotionally. Anger causes misinterpretation of situations and leads us to jump wrongly to conclusions in order fit and justify our anger. It’s a cancer we can’t afford to let grow and remain. It wears us out and will destroy emotionally and physically. When entertaining anger, clear and unbiased decisions can’t be made. Every thought, word and action are skewed and doesn’t help. It will only harm and perpetuate an already bad situation.
Stop the anger insanity. Churning anger is like punching yourself in the nose; it makes a bad situation worse. The bible says, “A soft answer turns away wrath.” This isn’t spoken to turn away the anger of another, but to turn away yours. You can’t effectively love if you don’t. Not only must you turn away, but you have to put it away as well. You mustn’t revisit it. Jesus said, “They will know we are Christians by our love for one another.” You won’t find justification in the Bible for harboring anger. Yet, as believers we tend to be the first to cast stones, ripping and tearing others apart. If someone were to describe you would love be the first or last word they’d use?
There’s only one way to defeat anger, prayer. In taking it to the Lord and speaking to Him only, the outcome will be one of love and harmony. In doing this only one gets punched in the nose, Satan!
