How Great Our God Is
I will sing of mercy and lovingkindness and justice; to You, O Lord, will I sing. Psalms 101:1
It's easy to enjoy the mercy and lovingkindness of the Lord and yet overlook His justice. It's His well-rounded attributes that set Him apart from other leaders, teachers or deities. His lovingkindness guarantees an unwavering love and compassion. His righteous justice ensures judgments that are fair and appropriate; in that His great mercy gives us what we do not deserve. I'm thankful that God's justice is righteous. The justice of this world is sin tainted and based upon our offenses. Even if the accused is found innocent people never forget. Stones are cast even when all the details are unknown. I'm thankful God doesn't treat us that way. His justice isn't based upon the offense, but upon the blood of Jesus applied to our heart. His justice isn't applied because of the actions of others, but our own. Our opinions are not what move the hand of God, but the work of Jesus and the cross. What matters most to Him is your heart, and your relationship with Him. As we live during this time of grace, He exercises mercy. I may deserve to suffer due to a wrong choice, but because of His great love and mercy I don't necessarily get what I deserve. The Bible says that His mercy and lovingkindness endures forever. I'm aware that I've tested His patience entirely too much over the years. It's my goal not to keep testing His patience, but be better today than I was yesterday and be better tomorrow than I will be today. I'm grateful that His mercies are new for me every morning and there's new blessing waiting for me as well. Let us no longer take for granted His mercy, lovingkindness, and justice, but remember daily how great our God is!
