We Are Family
What does your family mean to you? Do you stand together or fall apart? When spoken of is it with pride or embarrassment? Being family isn't always easy, we rub each other the wrong way, misunderstand, lash out in anger, take advantage of and take for granted whether by accident or on purpose and since there's never been a perfect family why expect perfection? Why are we upset when mistakes are made and why so offended when someone does something that affects only them, because our expectation is to keep the family face and reputation above reproach? Don’t agree, watch your emotions the next time there's an unapproved oops. We should pat on the back and say I love you rather than cut to pieces and throw them under the bus. We should say I'm sorry, ask forgiveness and overlook offenses after all we ourselves fall down and need picked up. I know there are those who take advantage at every turn and give very little if anything in return, but Jesus didn't tell us to do unto others only if they deserve it and do for us in return. He said do what we want done to us. I don't know many who like being treated badly or verbally berated.
It matters not whether family is biological, adopted, church or other we're called to love as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us. His intent isn't; do it if it's easy, but do it for the member that's difficult, unlovable, messed up or annoying. It's easy to do for those we care about, but what about the ones that tick us off? Jesus went to the cross not for the unblemished perfect, which there are none, but for the messed up sin stained, which includes us all. None is perfect not one.
"He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends."
