"Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
Discontentment is a cancer infecting and consuming so many. What's most disturbing is how deeply it's crept into the lives of many believers. I know everyone has at one time or another struggled with this, but it shouldn't be a lifestyle. When reading this in the Amplified I realized the dynamite that lies within these words. "Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money including greed, avarice, lust and craving for earthly possessions and be satisfied with our present circumstances and with what you have, for God Himself has said, "I will not in any way fail you nor give you up or leave you with support. I will not, I will not, I will not in any degree leave you helpless, nor forsake nor let you down, (relax My hold on you). Assuredly not!" God's not just saying "I will never desert you," but "I will not, I will not, I will not!" That's a concrete promise and He goes on to add, "I will not relax My hold on you." Discontentment is like a shipwreck. Jesus' in the lifeboat holding tightly to us trying to pull us out, but we won't let go of the rail on the sinking ship because we need our possession. It's not God's fault if you're feeling stress and futility, you're trying to hold onto things you should be letting go of. A diagnosis of cancer causes people to do whatever they can to be cured and live. Want to be cancer free? Want to live? Let go of all the things pulling you down and trust the Lord.
