Default Browser
I have had multiple calls that Microsoft Edge keeps taking over as the default browser. Microsoft wants you to use Edge. Here are steps you can take to keep your browser set to what you want to use.
Let’s review how to set the default app. Go to Settings and then choose Apps. On the left of the screen, choose “Default apps” Scroll down to Web Browser and you will see the current default browser. If you click on that you will see a list of browsers that you can choose from. Click on the browser of your choice.
Next, go to the bottom of the page, and select “Choose default apps by protocol”. It may take a few seconds to load but a long list will display. Scroll down till you see “HTTP”. Select your desired web browser again. The next line down is “HTTPS”. Select your browser here as well.
Click the back arrow at the top of the page next to “Settings” to go back to the previous Settings screen. At the bottom of the page, choose “Set defaults by app”. A screen will load that lists your apps. Scroll till you see the browser that you want to use and click on it. A “Manage” button will show. Click on that. On the left you will see file types and protocols listed. Check the browser that is selected for the following: .htm, .HTML, .shtml, .svg, .webp, .xht, .xhtml, HTTP and HTTPS. Make sure each of these extensions are set to the browser that you want.
These steps should make sure that no matter which type of web page you are opening it will get opened in the browser that you choose not the one that Windows thinks you want to use.
