This week: CenturyLink and Windows 10
Last week, I was looking a client’s CenturyLink monthly statement and noticed that their DSL fees seemed very high for the network speed they were getting; they had this line for a very long time. I suggested that they call CenturyLink and see if they could either get a lower price or a higher speed for the same amount. Rates and fees change quite often so it never hurts every year or two, to look over all your monthly statements. Make sure you are paying for what you are getting or getting what you are paying for, call the customer service department of the company and inquire what they can do for you. Also, I was working with a client whose Internet had slowed way down and, during testing, stopped completely. According to the help desk, they checked the line and said everything looked good. I was then asked what modem was connected and it turns out that it was a very old modem, and CenturyLink was trying to replace these with new ones for no charge, no shipping fees, or the normal monthly fee. So if your modem for CenturyLink is a black or blue, 4in by 4in square box with a model number of 6100, call the Internet repair line and see if they will upgrade it for free.
Last month with my testing of Windows 10 I said that it runs very well on older PC’s; this is true. But what I found was that the manufacturers might not update the drivers needed for the older hardware to work with windows 10. I found one machine that did not have a compatible audio driver, and I have found many older printers will not have drivers for windows 10.  You may get a free upgrade for your XP or Vista PC. This does not mean the manufacturer will upgrade all the drivers needed.
‘til next week
