This week: Internet Explorer and other browsers.
Has anyone besides me been having problems with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Browser? I have noticed, for quite a while, that my IE Version 11 continuously tells me there is a problem and needs to shut down and restart the tab. It fails most often on Facebook, but on other web sites too. I.E being what it is, there is no log file of failures that I know of, so I have no way to fix the problem.
I believe the issue lies with I.E.’s rendering of web pages when it receives data it cannot handle. It got irritating enough for me to change to Google’s Chrome Browser. As a matter of principle, I am not a fan of Google, as I feel they are way too nosy in by business, so I only use Chrome for Facebook. Nothing on Facebook is private so having Google snoop is not a problem.
OK, you may ask, what are other options? Firefox is the second most popular browser in the valley; its good points being one of the most secure browsers, weekly updates keeping current with most hacking attempts, and not backed by a business that is paid to snoop, it is somewhat better for privacy. Both Chrome and Firefox I find hard to personalize, and if you are not online you cannot change anything, as your settings are stored on the Companies’ servers, not your PC like I.E. is. Other players in the game are Safari, Apple’s browser for Apple products, but it does run on Windows, although I just read that they have stopped supporting Windows in the latest releases. Opera Browser is one I have not tried yet; it has been around for a while but is not very popular. There are new browsers that I have read about, that are more secure and will not let web sites track your activity, but I will need to look at them and write about them later.
In summary which browser to use? I would recommend downloading them all and testing them to see which one you like the best, and like all apps, read the help section, any other instructions that come with the download, and learn to use it well to keep the frustration level down.
‘til next week
