Then she said, "Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and her gods; return after your sister-in-law." Ruth 1:15
Because of famine Naomi, her
husband and sons left the land of Judah for Moab. While there
her husband died and her sons married; two years later her sons
died. She was left with Orpah and Ruth, her daughters-in-law,
in a land not her own. She decided to go home. Orpah and Ruth
went with her and along the way Naomi told them to go back to
their land and family because she was old she couldn't offer them
anything. Orpah returned home, but Ruth refused. She chose to
adopt Naomi's land, people and God.
Have you said no to God because you can't walk away from the land,
people and god's that you have grown accustomed to, afraid to
go the a strange new land of experience.
Ruth was scared too, but loved and trusted Naomi. She knew that
what caused Naomi to be who she was, waited for her in this new
land. Refusing to go where the Lord is leading because we are
comfortable with what we have known causes us to miss out on new
discoveries and blessings.
Because Ruth went, she met and married a great man. He not only
provided for Ruth and Naomi, but also was part of the lineage
of Jesus. Ruth, a foreigner, became part of something that would
forever change this world.
Step out in faith, go to a new land, meet new people and see what
the Lord has in store for you.
