Yea?Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou are with me. Psalm 23:4
Yep, I always cheer when I go through
something difficult! "Goodie here I go again, pain, misery,
discomfort and loss." "How lucky I am?" NOT!
"I ain't happy at all!"
This passage isn't saying for us to be ecstatic, "yea"
means, "even though". This valley doesn't necessarily
mean physical death; it's referring to anything that feels like
a dying situation.
Death comes in many forms. We suffer financial death; relational
death or emotional death and each of these are just as painful
to the sufferer as is the loss of a loved one.
The key for us is, "I will fear no evil, for Thou
are with me." Do you notice that death in this valley is
a shadow? What we go through hurts and can seem
insurmountable, but truly it's only a shadow. Eventually it will
pass.
When clouds move in and blot out the sun, we know that sooner
or later they'll pass and the sunlight will be back. Why? Because
the sun never left; it just waited for the clouds that cast a
shadow to go away.
God is always there, even though we are in the valley of the shadow.
He doesn't leave, He won't move away and He'll never sleep.
The valley's not fun, but God's always faithful to be there, and
the clouds will move and your life will feel the sun again. That
is why we can say "Yea"!
