"Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother Mary, and His brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? Matthew 13:55
It was no accident that Jesus
was born to be a carpenter's son. He came to build a bridge between
God and man, to build a relationship with a fallen world, to build
in us a strong foundation and the ability to live again. He came
to build and re-establish His truth. He came to build a road to
spiritual freedom.
Jesus didn't come to start a building project and leave before
it was completed. He stayed until it was finished on the cross.
As a carpenter He sands and touches until He feels the roughness
is smooth and finished. As a carpenter He went to the cross to
shed His blood so we could be covered and protected from the vile
elements of sin. And as a carpenter He signs His work by stamping
us with the Holy Spirit when we accept Him.
A carpenter builds, remodels and restores. What a joy to know
that Jesus our redeemer is the master carpenter. He's not only
building us but also made Himself the foundation upon which we
are being built.
When a foundation is laid the first corner has to be perfect so
that everything else will follow in line. If it isn't done right
the foundation will be flawed and weak. Build on Jesus; He's
the perfect corner stone of our faith. Everything else will follow
a straight and level path if we're built on Him.
