Oh give thanks to the
Lord, call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him, speak of all His wonders.
1 Chronicles 16: 8-9
Why is it so much easier to
complain than to be thankful? Why do we expend so much energy
complaining? Why do we forget to count our blessings until something
drastic happens? I hate my job; suddenly I am laid off. I want
what everyone else has until the bills start pouring in. The
summer's too hot then winter's too cold. I don't like being so
busy; suddenly I get really sick and can do nothing. We're not
happy with one thing; then we're not happy with the other.
When will we learn to be content with where we are and what we
have? We're not guaranteed a perfect existence, but we can exist
in the perfect One.
One of my favorite songs says, "I know who holds tomorrow
and I know who holds my hand." I'm so thankful that no matter
what I may face in the coming year, I won't have to face it alone.
I find it such a blessing to know Jesus' presence each and every
day.
This year let us choose to be more thankful. When we start to
complain remember things could be worse. Be thankful for a not
so good job, for what you do have, that you can get out of bed
each morning, that winter is cold, that summer will be warm and
that God is able to deliver.
And we know that God
causes all things to work together for good to those who love
God, and to those who are called according to His purpose.
