And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. Matthew 14:25
Here are the disciples' crossing
the Sea of Galilee after feeding five thousand plus people. They'd
been on the boat all night when a storm arose. The stage is set
for another life lesson. Some of the disciples were fishermen,
so a storm wasn't new to them. Jesus was about to use just another
storm to show them how to live victoriously.
They're in a boat made by human hands, crossing an unpredictable
sea. Suddenly here is Jesus, just before the dawn and walking
on top of the waves saying, "It is Me, don't be afraid."
Life has a way of churning like a storm at sea. We're in a world
that we can't depend on to keep us safe or protect us during such
storms. When we think we can't take anymore, here's Jesus just
before dawn walking on top of things saying, "It's Me, don't
be afraid."
Jesus didn't come through the waves, but on top as a victorious
King in control of the storm. He isn't asking us to go through
the waves of trouble, but to walk victoriously on top of those
waves. To accomplish this we have to believe He has given us
the power and authority in His name to do what He has done.
When Peter realized Who was on the waves, he asked to go to Jesus.
Jesus didn't say to him, "Swim to Me", but rather,
"Come to Me". Peter was walking until he took his focus
off the Lord; then he sank. Our faith will remain strong if we
keep our focus on Jesus. We can walk on water if
we know where our "Rock" is!
Trust in the Lord forever,
for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock. Isaiah 26:4
