And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last and the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Mark 15:37-38
This was no ordinary veil.
It is the veil that separated the very presence of God from the
people. Only the high priest could go beyond the veil. But he
had to make sure he was in good standing with God or he'd die
when he entered. All the right sacrifices and offerings were
to be made; even then a rope was tied to his ankle and bells were
sewn on bottom of his robe, so that a person on the outside of
the veil could pull the high priest out if the bells stopped jingling.
The tearing of the veil was extremely significant; it meant two
things. First, Jesus was the perfect sacrifice that satisfied
the debt of sin that we could never satisfy. Second, we have
full access to God without fear of death. God would no longer
allow anything to be a barrier between Him and us. He, once again,
offered what was His intention in the first place, - a one on
one relationship and intimacy with Him.
By tearing the veil from top to bottom He sent us a message, "I
am granting open and unimpaired relationship." If there's
a veil between Me and you know this, you have put it there.
God's message on the day Jesus died was sent loud clear; no one
will keep Me from you anymore. I welcome you, here I am.
I challenge you, tear down the veil and establish or restore relationship
with God.
To You I lift up my eyes,
oh You who are enthroned in the heavens. Psalm 123:1
