As believers, do we walk the
walk or rather do we walk the Word? We're commanded in 1 Peter
to be above reproach, to live with others in truth and righteousness.
It doesn't mean being better than everyone else, but to act better
toward everyone else.
We can be great offenders in these mentioned areas. We can also
choose to be angry at hearing this or choose to obey the very
Word of God that we say we believe in. Why should anyone want
to follow Jesus if we can't? I'm not talking about making mistakes,
which will happen every day, but I am talking about making choices.
Don't fool yourselves; these things aren't hidden. They're seen
like a flashing neon sign in our lives. We're only fooling ourselves
if we think we're not "as bad" as everyone else. Just
one of these offenses makes us guilty of disobeying God, and just
as guilty as everyone else.
In Philippians 2:3 we can see how God actually wants us to act.
"Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a
cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always
considering others better than yourselves."
Yes, it is true that none is perfect, but when we choose to participate
in these divisive behaviors it becomes sin, and sin separates
us from God's blessings. None of us want to be treated in these
ways, so let's begin to consider others and put away our pride
and selfishness and become the examples we're commanded to be.
