We've gotten so good at staying
busy, that even in our recreation we don't take time to rest as
God told us too. There's absolutely no down time in our lives
if we don't choose to make it happen. But we need both physical
and emotional rest or our bodies will eventually shut down. Even
God rested from creating. We convince ourselves that we must
be doing something at all times. This is a deception. If the
enemy of our souls can keep us so busy all the time, we won't
make time for God.
God also wants us to be spiritually at rest from the stress of
our daily turmoil's, even Jesus exampled this. There are several
occasions when He separated Himself from ministry, disciples,
and family to rest and have one on one time with God. If we don't
separate ourselves and rest in God then we'll become entangled
and strangled by circumstances.
When we enter God's rest, we're allowing Him to bear our cares
and we'll no longer feel empty and dry, but refreshed and renewed.
Trying to carry our own burdens alone is like trying to carry
water in a bucket with a hole in the bottom. Eventually it leaks
out and is empty and dry. But God's bucket doesn't have a hole
and we'll always find refreshment there.
Come to me all you who
are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew
