Rear Guard
Put on all the armor that God supplies, this way you can take
a stand against the devil's strategies. Ephesians 6:11(GW)
Want to sneak up on someone,
come from behind. Unless they're blind, you definitely can't
do it from in front of them they'll see you coming! Hello!
Satan's a pro at sneak up behind. His tactics are not to take
you head on. But stealth, cunning and deception are his weapons
of choice. If we see danger coming at us, what are we likely
to do? Run away. He disguises the danger so well, we often accept
it and become angry when someone tells us what we're doing is
wrong and dangerous. That's his goal; to get us hooked before
we realize the danger we're in.
The Bible says to put on the armor of God, in order to guard
against the attack of the enemy. God's armor is designed to protect
our thoughts, actions, and heart. Most armor that I've seen protects
a soldier from the front as he marches into battle. He isn't
protected from behind. That's where Jesus comes in. He's our
rear guard.
As the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, the Egyptians from behind
were advancing on them. But as they moved forward in obedience,
God stood between them and their enemy until they were safely
across. He then took up position in front of them again to lead
them as the Red Sea came crashing down upon their enemies.
As we walk forward in obedience to God and recognize the deceptions
of sin, God will protect us from behind. God knows the schemes
of the enemy; he can't sneak up on Him ever!
But the Lord is faithful,
who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 2
