Disappointment
Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? Psalm 42:11a
We have all suffered from disappointment.
No one is immune to its effects in our lives. I have been reading
a book by Philip Yancy titled "Disappointment With God".
My suggestion, find this book and read it! It's that good.
It is opening my eyes to some awesome truths.
I have been in church most of my life. When I was sixteen I
decided I didn't want to be just a Christian, but have a personal
relationship with Jesus. I have been in love with Jesus ever
since. But over the years I grew cold and drifted some. I never
stopped being a Christian, but I did stop having a deep relationship
with Him. Until about 12 years ago. God gave me a vision of
His love and desire for me and where I live. A fire began to
burn and hasn't stopped. My relationship with Him has now grown
into a deep friendship.
During the years I have had many occasions to experience disappointment
not only with God but also with others. He didn't answer, He
didn't move, where is He when I am hurting so much. In reading
this book by Yancy I have come to understand my disappointment
comes from my rebellion against God when I allow sin and selfishness
to take priority. God's provision can't come from "I want
it now", but from my heart and will stating just what Jesus
stated in the garden before His death, "Your will be done,
not Mine."
Until we get out of His way and let Him go first, we will always
be disappointed.
I will put my hope in God, and once
again I will praise Him, my savior and my God. Psalm 42:11b
