"Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ. " Ephesians 4:32
Last week we saw the many wrongs Joseph had to endure: mistreated by his family, master, and friend. Had that been the end of his story, we would think his life a disaster, but God had a plan. He allowed God to take the wrong and use it to save two nations, Egypt, and the future Israel. You see, Joseph and his brothers were the original 12 tribes that exist today. But the story goes even further than that. Instead of becoming bitter and resentful, Joseph chose to forgive and be thankful for Gods many blessings in his life.
The famine didn't just come to Egypt, but the surrounding countries. Joseph's family was affected by this famine. His brothers went to buy grain and food from Egypt in order to survive. It was Joseph they had to deal with. They didn't recognize him, but he knew immediately who they were. Many encounters and weeks later, he revealed himself to them. In tears he forgave them and brought the entire family to live there. They were given land of their own to inhabit. They were saved from death and restored to good standing by Joseph.
He chose to forgive. It is just what God wants to do. He longs to restore us to
Himself.
All we have to do is accept it.
"Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door.
If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together."
Revelation 3:20
