A: This is the first time anyone has asked that! Actually, one of the reasons we spay female dogs that aren't going to be bred, is to eliminate the female hormones. The hormones are responsible for several cancers and diseases, and spaying prevents those from ever occurring.
Female dogs get breast cancer just like women do, and if they are spayed early, they will never get the disease! Another problem they can get is called pyometra, which is a filling of the uterus with pus. This can go unnoticed and become a serious problem, so spaying is a good idea.
Males can also get prostate and testicular cancers and castration prevents those. So neutering is a good idea for health reasons.
A spayed female may leak urine as she gets older, and if that happens, you can give her a drug called Prion that will stop the leaking.
Pets really don't need sex hormones in their lives!
