Q: What is the correct age to neuter my male dog?
A: Some veterinarians do puppy hood castrations which can mean anywhere from 6 weeks of age on up.
Most of the time I suggest that a dog be neutered around 6 months of age. It is nice to let the dog develop some male characteristics such as lifting his leg to urinate before castration.
Most male traits such as marking territory and fighting are not desirable so early castration minimizes these behaviors.
Older dogs can be neutered any time.
Castration reduces the risk of testicular cancer which is fairly common. We all know that unwanted puppies also result from unneutered pets so spay and neuter!!!!
