Q: I heard that you offer microchipping. Can you explain what that is and why it could be useful?
A: A microchip is a small device about the size of a grain of rice, that can easily be implanted using a large needle, under your pet's skin.
You need to register with the network so that if your pet is lost, when scanned at the animal shelter or a vet's office, the chip will give your contact information so that your pet is likely to be returned. This is not painful or expensive, and a great idea for all your dogs and cats.
A special machine is needed to read the chips. These scanners are available at vet clinics and animal shelters. Be sure to have any stray animals that you find scanned to find their owner, if they were lucky enough to be microchipped.
