Q: What can I do to stop my male cats from spraying in the house?
A: If these are young cats, under a year, they will probably stop spraying if they are neutered right away. If the behavior becomes well established as territorial marking, they may not stop urine spraying. If they are neutered before puberty, around nine months, they will never start the behavior.
Some female cats spray also, although it is much less common and the urine smell is not as offensive as the male cat's.
The best thing to do is to plan to have all male cats neutered before they reach sexual maturity. This is an out patient surgery and not expensive, so don't delay!
