Q: My older dog is pretty uncomfortable and has trouble getting up and down and I was wondering if there is anything that can be done for her?
A: This is a frequent question since as our pets age they develop aches and pains just as we do. There are lots of different things that you can try. First, make sure that your dog has a soft warm place to sleep. This makes a difference just as it would make you sore if you slept on the floor, or even worse, outside on the cold ground.
Take care that your dog does not become obese. The heavier your dog is, the harder it is on her joints.
Consider a MSM and Glucosamine supplement. These products increase cartilage and joint health. Adequan is a wonder drug that can rejuvenate your old dog's joints; call if you have questions on this drug.
There are numerous prescription medications that can also be helpful.
There are also portable ramps that can be used so that your dog can get into the car or onto your bed! So don't give up, there are lots of things to try!
