Hi, All!
This Week: Windows 7!Part - 2
This will be a multi-part series on my experience with installing and using Windows 7.Last week I started my tale of working with Windows 7. The installation was straightforward. I put the Windows 7 DVD in my drive while XP was running. The Windows 7 Installer started up and gave me the option to install Windows 7 or run the upgrade adviser at this time. I clicked on install Windows 7. There is then an option to run an automatic or custom install. I chose the custom install, as I wanted to install Win 7 on the second partition of my hard drive. Also, the upgrade adviser told me that I would have to run a custom install, and erase my XP partition and install a fresh copy of Win 7. It did not tell me why I could not overlay my XP install nor did I want to try to.
I did two backups, one backing up everything on my hard drive to ensure restoring the whole drive if necessary, and next I did a Windows file and setting transfer backup that backs up all data and settings that should reload onto Windows 7 after it is up and running.
The install took more than an hour before I was able to even touch my keyboard to start setting up Win 7. Then the fun began. The first thing Win 7 did is to check to see what updates were needed from the Microsoft update web site, and it download almost 45 updates created from the time Win 7 was sent to production to its release on 10/22.
'Til next week,
