This Week: VISTA Service Pack 1
Yep, Microsoft has issued the first full update or "service pack" for VISTA. As most of us know, Microsoft's operating systems are so big and complex; they cannot check every possible scenario in the lab. I think they do a good job in sending out reasonably bug-free O/S's in the first release, but the divergent requirements of users around the world demands that Microsoft release annually a complete set of corrected program code to keep the O/S viable.
The upshot of this preamble is that the update is available and if you are on a high-speed line and have automatic updates turned on; you probably all ready have VISTA SP1 installed on your PC. However, if you are on a dial-up line or don't have automatic updates turned on, you do not yet have the service pack.To download the service pack on a dial-up line takes from three to eight hours, then about an hour to install the S/P on your machine. Not many of you want to tie up your phone line for that length of time, even overnight. To help you out, I have ordered a copy of the service pack on CD and will be happy to come and install it on your dial-up connected PC for an hour's time.
This will keep you updated, and some of the reviews I have been reading say it speeds VISTA up, which may make it worth the time.
If you do not have Windows automatic update turned on or do a once-a-month click on "windows Update" to download the updates, I will be happy to get your PC caught up if you want to drop the machine by my house, where my high-speed connection makes pretty quick work of getting all the updates on your PC.
