This Week: Questions about CD disks and devices Part - 1

Hi Robert,

I am one of your "dedicated-look forward to your column readers who is from the Flintstone Era" but new to computer use. I have been clipping and saving the articles when ever I get the Shopper however there have been many empty slot weeks so my Questions may have been already discussed.

I don't think any of your missing columns have the information you are looking for, so here are your answers. You have a very good PC there, and it should do what you need it to do with no problems.

1. Thanks to a generous friend, I was loaned a complete system, some discs and manuals, but the tower one is missing. It is a Hp pavilion 511n( says digital and video ready) and (create your own music mix with hp cd writer). The TOP slot is labeled Hp cd-writer and below it is a slot labeled Expansion/bay. Does this mean the top one is used only to "write" recordable discs and NOT used to "view" pre-recorded discs like for adding programs, etc? What is the second one for? (Dumb question but it is a loan I do not want to break.)

It looks like you have a PC with one CD drive, with one "expansion bay" for adding other devices or another CD or DVD drive. The CD drive you have will read and write CD's but not DVD's. If there is a drive in the expansion bay then depending on what kind of a device it is depends on what it will do. It would be hard to break the PC by putting a CD in a drive and seeing what happens.
