Hi, All!

This Week: Tiger Mountain helps fix a PC

I sent this note to Tiger Mountain Technologies as I was stumped as to what the problem could be with Yahoo Games.

I have been working on a PC for a user who plays Yahoo Games. The user said about three months ago that she was no longer able to play. I have checked out the PC and have tried to play Yahoo Games with my PC using I.E.6 and get the same thing--either a box with a red "X" or a blank screen. I have used Yahoos Troubleshooter and checked all their pointers. Could your firewall be blocking Yahoo Games?

Hi Robert,

I need the URL to the game your playing (or attempting to play). With the introduction of IE 6 SP1 Java support was removed (or greatly limited). You may want to verify that you have a current Java Virtual Machine which you can download from Sun at http://java.com/en/index.jsp

I followed Randy's advice and downloaded the Java Support from Sun Microsystems, Inc., on my PC first and tested playing some Yahoo games, and they worked. I then loaded it on the rest of my PC's as well as the PC that I was working on and found that Yahoo games worked on all of them. The moral of this story is: if you are having trouble with programs on your PC that once worked for you, try downloading and installing Java Support from Sun Microsystems, Inc. It is a time consuming download and installation, even on a fast PC, but it seems to install each and every time and is well worth the effort. Thanks, Randy, and the rest of the TMT staff!
