A question from India Part 1

HI ROBERT,

Hope you are doing well. My PC does not show any POWER-ON SELF TEST; i.e., it is not booting. What could be the probable causes? Awaiting fast reply.

Thank you for your question.
I can think of a couple of items that could be causing your PC not to boot, and if it is not POSTing (Power On Self Test - the first thing a PC does before loading Windows) then there is a hardware problem with your PC. Most likely the CMOS chip or the bootstrap chip have gone bad. If it is POSTing and then not finding a hard drive or just sitting there with power on, you could have a virus that has destroyed your hard drive. If you have a "startup" floppy disk for your PC, you can try to see if that will boot. If it does, then you have a trashed hard drive. If you have one of the two chips that are bad not letting POST happen, then it is probably time for a replacement PC or motherboard, depending on your expertise. How did you find me? It looks like you are quite a distance from Lewis county Washington! Let me know if this helps. Again thanks for the question.
