for July 16, 2003 Sorry-- Robert got busy and didn't get his July 23 column in until too late for this upload. If we don't get it in time to put it up this week, we'll put it and the following week's both up next week. Hi, All;
This week: Internet Explorer Helpful Hint, Part Two
Last week we started a discussion about the "AutoComplete" feature of Internet Explorer.
If you do not want "AutoComplete" to guess at what ID, Password, and web sites you want, any or all can be turned off. On your Explorer menu bar, click on "Tools," then click on "Internet Options." Now click on the "Content" tab, and under "Personal Information," click on "AutoComplete." There are four check boxes; the first one will AutoComplete any web addresses you start typing. The Second is "Forms;" this is the check box that will save and AutoComplete any information that is typed in Internet "forms." The next two check boxes are for the ID's and passwords. If you click these two boxes, Explorer will AutoComplete your ID's and password, and if it is a new ID and password, you will be asked if you want to save it or not.I like this feature of I.E., as it saves having to remember all your passwords. You do have to remember the start of the ID's so I.E. knows what ID and password to display.
Like any electronic memory, it requires you to make a safe copy of all your ID's and passwords, either on paper safely stored where you can find it, or in the form of an electronic copy. If you are really cautious, do both so if they get lost on your hard drive, you can still access them.
Next Week: A follow up question about passwords
