Hi, All;

This week: Internet Explorer Helpful Hint, Part One

Have you ever entered your password or ID into Internet Explorer and gotten a dialog box asking if you want to save the ID and password information? You wonder where is this information saved? Is it safe? Then when you select "yes" to save the information, you find out it was entered wrong. Now, every time you go to that web site and start keying in the ID, the wrong ID--or worse, the wrong password--pops up to "AutoComplete" it for you.
How do you control the "AutoComplete" function?

First: is it safe? Yes, Microsoft encrypts your ID and password data in a file on your hard drive that can be decrypted only by your Explorer. So even if a hacker gets into your hard drive, it would be extremely difficult for them to decrypt the file for use.

What should you do if you find you have the wrong ID in the "AutoComplete" file; can you change it or delete it? Yes, you can delete the wrong ID, but it cannot be changed. To delete the ID, just press your delete key when the drop-down box displays the highlighted ID, then re-enter the correct ID and password and "save."

Oh darn, out of column before I am out of words again. Continued next week.

Next week: Internet Explorer helpful hint, part two.

Til next week, (ComputerFAQ#147)
