As you can see, I've chosen to deny your generous request! Though "Ask Annie" is published in the heart of outdoor country, not all my readers are in favor of hunting! Anyway, everybody knows that all deer and elk are born with an internal calendar system that flips on an alarm right about the opening day of hunting season. That's why they can be tromping through your yard bravely one day, and disappear like whisps of hunters' dreams for months after that. I'll file your letter along with the other ones received from hunters wanting to know exactly which plants attract deer and elk to ravage in our gardens.

I can't believe you didn't give "One Lone Pearl," the lady from Yakima who's looking for a companion, some suggestions as to where to search! Your own gramma met Grampa Joe at her church Bible study. There were dozens of women to only a few men, and there went Gramma Gertie, not looking and not trying to attract a man at her advanced age, but she caught his eye and the rest was history. They were married nine happy years before he died of cancer.
