Aug. 25, 2004 Dear Annie,
I'm a teenager, and I'm tired of hearing about how we can do anything we set our minds to. You adults spout off with what you think is positive talk to us, but we're not stupid. If anyone can do anything they'd like just by working hard, then how come so many of you trudge along to jobs you don't even like each day?
Not Me in Randle, WA
Dear Not Me,
To support so many of you. We spout off with talk like that because we want better for you than what we might actually have. Our hope is that you get to work at something you like, and one of the best ways to gain that is through hard work and education. P.S.: I like my job. I just wish I didn't have to work!
Annie
Dear Annie,
You were right about not being able to find weather appropriate clothing in the chain department stores in our area. That's why I look for things like rubber boots locally, or on line. We ran into the same problem you mentioned this summer, too, with a wedding fast approaching and no long sleeved dress shirts for the men. We found those at thrift stores and yard sales. Apparently men donate them after one wear and then leave us to shop frantically for another shirt the next summer at the next wedding they attend.
Connie, Summering in Packwood
Dear Connie,
That sounds exactly right, except some men would never donate anything because that would entail looking through the clothes in their closets and actually sorting them. Then they might discover what we women have found, that while stored, clothes shrink! Waistbands become inches smaller and what fit once, two summers ago, suddenly is far too small. It happened to me!
