Aug. 4, 2004 Dear Annie,
A while ago, I wrote to you and signed it, "Tired of Being Alone," in Packwood. I'm no longer lonely. I was the one who had real funny feelings about a man who was trying to get into my life, and my mother kept pooh-poohing them. You told me to follow my heart and trust my instincts. Boy, were you right! I know Mom, God rest her soul, (she died last November,) wanted me to find a man to take care of me. That's how she thought of it, anyway. But that man went on to sweet talk another lady out of some money before he left the area! She hasn't heard from him since! I haven't met anyone special but I haven't given up on the idea, either, I've simply come to be content with living alone.
Alone and Okay in Packwood
Dear Alone,
I looked back to find your letter, and it was in April 2002 that you wrote! Thanks for the update. I knew you were right about that man. God gives us intuition to protect us. I'm sorry to hear about the death of your mother, but glad you're doing so well.
Annie
Dear "Fan,"
Perhaps you're right. I may be naive and not "immersed in other cultures besides my own." However, I do know this: Christians are those who believe in the saving blood of Jesus Christ. Americans are citizens of this nation. Americans are not all Christians. Reading your letter made it seem that you do not recognize that distinction. Also, it costs more than 37 cents to mail those document sized envelopes. It was all the more difficult to read your reprimand over my column on being proud to be an American when I had to pay for the privilege.
Annie
