Ask Annie for Aug. 13, 2003

Dear Annie,

I liked the advice you gave Crowsfeet about staying away from the glittery make up since she's a pale skinned, middle-aged redhead. I'm a man who's attracted to redheaded women, but not those ones who plaster on the war paint. Two things that also might help Crowsfeet's appearance are eye drops and tooth whitener. When white people get older, they tend to start turning red and yellow. Yellow skin, red eyes, and yellow teeth. Some even get yellowish white hair, but you already suggested a hair rinse to her. Using eye drops to clear the eyes, and some kind of tooth whitener to brighten up her teeth, would probably make her look great. And then send her over to Packwood.

Dear Smilin',

Okay, she'll whiten and brighten and be on her way! Thanks for more good suggestions. Another reader wrote that anyone clean is good looking, and wanted me to tell Crowsfeet to just use deodorant and brush her teeth more. Though that reader was trying to be helpful, they were slightly off the point. Crowsfeet was feeling old and unattractive, not dirty and smelly. Another e-mailed a nice note about figure flattering fashions. Also, well-meant, but missing the point. And take it from me, some figures cannot be flattered. I know this from looking in the mirror every morning. I've come to believe that my three year old likes the Teletubbies on TV so much because they're shaped just like Mommy.

Dear Annie,

Thanks for printing Dianna Hoge's letter about litter at Horseshoe and Jackpot Lakes. We, too, were saddened by the mess along the shore of Jackpot Lake when we visited in June. As for the mentality of people who trash beautiful places like that, I'd say it's laziness.
