Ask Annie for July 9, 2003

Dear Annie:

This past week we were on a mini vacation in the Packwood Randle area. We camped at Horseshoe Lake, and we also tried some fishing at Jackpot Lake. Annie, I just don't know what is wrong with people. Along the roads to both places there were several discarded beer cans, and other garbage. Then, where we were fishing at Jackpot Lake, some IDIOT that was there within a day of when we were, couldn't be bothered to clean up after himself. There were empty Camel cigarette packs, beer can, nearly empty jar of Pautzke's red eggs, and a few other things. We did pack this idiot's garbage out for him and I'm sure will have to do it again the next time we go up there.

I just don't understand how anyone can be so disrespectful to our beautiful forest, and if they can't figure out how to use a garbage can, or pack their garbage out, stay at home.

Sincerely,
Dianna Hoge

Dear Dianna,

It comes as a shock when you drive or hike out to some secluded spot, seeing pretty scenery all the way out and expecting more lovely landscape at your destination, to find ugly garbage. People are so disrespectful now, in their habits, language, driving, so many ways. I guess it should come as no surprise that they don,t have a high regard for the gorgeous world out there, but it is sure disappointing, isn,t it? Once, my father found a pleasant place for us to go swimming, but there was broken glass and garbage all over. So we went and cleaned it up, hauled it off, made it pretty, and just like you say, the next time we came back it was trashed all over again. I don,t understand that mentality, either.
