Ask Annie for June 25, 2003 Dear Annie,
As a patron of Packwood Timberland Library and a citizen of Packwood, I was very upset when I received the "White Pass School District" summer newsletter in the mail. Timberland Regional Library has two libraries within the school district that provide outstanding summer reading programs for our children each summer, yet the school district dedicated half a page of their newsletter to the many wonderful programs happening this summer only at the Mt. View (Randle) Library. Many of these programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library organization, made up of members from the Packwood and Glenoma communities as well as Randle. In addition to the summer reading program the organization also sponsors educational programs for both children and adults through out the year, an annual scholarship to a White Pass senior, and many other needs of the two libraries. What a disservice to the children and parents of the Packwood area by not informing them that the same summer reading programs are offered at the Packwood Library. It is my belief that the school district includes the Packwood and Glenoma communities and not just the happenings in Randle. I believe this is a gross oversight by the school district that must not be repeated in the future.

Dear Concerned,
It sounds like there are some wonderful volunteers helping out the libraries, and you're all so lucky to have those summer programs. I hope a lot of kids get to take advantage of them this summer. I'm sure whoever produces the school district's newsletter didn't intentionally leave out Packwood Timberland Library's information. I'll just bet it fell through the cracks somehow, and now we've advertised the library programs, so all is well that ends well. Thank you for writing.
Annie
