Ask Annie for June 18, 2003

Dear Annie,

Our young, brave men and women are still away from their loved ones, fighting for freedom for other countries and our own, and I'd like no one to forget about them. When you see those flags July 4th, bow your head. Thank the Lord for the freedom you enjoy and remember, it's not something to take for granted. People you don't even know are keeping you safe. Thank God we're Americans and that there are still those who will die if they have to in order that we live the free life. Aren't you proud to be an American?

Proud and Free in Packwood

Dear Proud,

Yes, I am, and I'm also proud of my son, who is in the Navy in South Carolina as I write this. He could die to protect the rights of those who looked down their noses on him here for his tattoos and piercings. He's smart, brave and good. I don't want any American to forget that he's away from home, not able to see those he loves or do what he'd like to do, while he trains to go fight for our privilege to be here and enjoy the good life. We don't know what God has in store for our son, and it's a scary thing to be a mom whose child is sent out as a protector. Lord, we do pray that You'll be with those men and women, far from home and in perilous situations day and night. They live in deprivation and danger so we can sleep easy. Please bring them home safe and don't let us forget where they've gone and what they've done, once this war is over. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. Every day, I'm proud to be an American Mom.

Annie
